Education & Transition Center
How does the Center work?

Mercy Connections Education and Transition Center was developed in partnership with the individuals who became and are our constituents. The Center's formation was a process of community organizing among women and men whom we serve. Our goal then and now is to empower our constituents to create and/or strengthen the programs and opportunities they need to reach their full human potential. We hold community forums before each semester's course offerings in order to determine what people want and need from our programming

On an individual level, we facilitate three conditions in order to help people create change in their lives.

  1. Personal: Individuals work toward their own personal goals. Everyone is welcome, and everyone's dreams and goals are respected. Whether it's earning your high school diploma or seeking the support that comes from thirteen people sitting in a circle, sharing their stories, everyone is accepted. There are no qualifications or restrictions to participate in our programs.

  2. Connection: It is hard to create lasting change in our lives or the life of our community if we feel we are all alone. A central piece of Mercy Connection's Education and Transition Center is creating a safe space. This program encourages people to open up, have faith in who they are, and trust the fact that people are there to support them. This feeling of connection, support, community, and trust, leads to personal empowerment, which leads to individuals finding and using their voice to create change in their lives and the wider community.

  3. Access: Success occurs when people need to have access to the educational resources thus building their skills. At the Center we focus on holistic programming and provide a range of classes, from wellness to money management, from leadership to literacy.
